SESSION 1 LECTURE: THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
Do portrait paintings still matter? Portraiture is one of the most familiar and conventional genres in art history, from the elevation of Renaissance nobility, to the annual Archibald Prize, with entire galleries and museums dedicated to the theme. Within such a lofty genre, how do artists continuously reinvent what it means to capture a likeness and create portraits that stand apart as innovative and brave? In this session, we will examine portraits from the QAGOMA Collection.
