Cutting the factory wiring harness is probably the biggest mistake I see people make when doing car audio. It's unnecessary and can lead to clutter, fire hazards, and make it impossible to rewire if done incorrectly. I much prefer a wiring harness connector like this one, or an extension you can mess around with without taking such a big risk on the vehicle itself.
