In the dry season, visiting the floating village in Siem Reap is a very different experience. The water levels drop, revealing wooden stilts that hold up the houses, making them look like they are standing on tall legs. Boats rest on the dry, cracked earth, and some villagers travel by motorbikes instead of boats. The air is hot and dusty, and the landscape feels quiet and still.
In the wet season, everything changes. The heavy rains fill the lake, and the village truly begins to float. Houses, shops, and schools sit on the water, moving gently with the waves. Boats replace motorbikes, and people paddle through the village, just like cars on a street. The air feels fresh, and the whole place comes to life, with children splashing in the water and fishermen casting their nets. It’s a peaceful and beautiful sight, full of movement and colour.
