By late June and early July 1941, the air and ground war in Syria was reaching a critical stage. Despite heavy losses, Vichy French aviation units continued to launch strikes in support of their ground forces, while the Commonwealth troops pressed forward from multiple directions and the fighting around Palmyra, Aleppo, and the Euphrates grew increasingly intense.
As the battle developed, both sides kept sending bombers and fighters into the skies over the Levant, where every sortie could change the course of the campaign. What followed was a series of sharp encounters, desperate attacks, and heavy losses that pushed the Vichy defenders closer to the edge.
