In this episode we dissect the 21 May 1969 clash over the Suez, where Egyptian MiG 21s faced Israeli Mirages – and both sides walked away with very different versions of what happened. We’ll look at how Egypt tried to turn the Su-7 and MiG-17 into more effective strike aircraft, how the short legged MiG 21 struggled in this environment, and then follow the narrative from both Egyptian and Israeli pilots through a chaotic multi aircraft engagement.
Conflicting kill claims, gun vs missile victories, a frustrated Mirage pilot refusing to disengage, and possibly the first confirmed enemy aircraft downed by a HAWK SAM battery all form part of this story.
