This is a single video version of the 12-part series about the 1941 Syria and Lebanon Campaign in which the British and Commonwealth forces along with the Free French invaded these countries, at the time held by the Vichy French. Although the defenders were expected to show only token resistance, these expectations turned out to be false. A fierce air war developed in which the defenders used their Dewoitine D.520s, Morane-Saulnier 406s, Martin 167s, LeO 451s and other aircraft to inflict heavy casualties on the invading forces.
On the other hand, the attackers relied on their Hurricanes, Tomahawks, Blenheims and other types to establish air superiority and support ground troops. Germans participated as well, sending several Ju 88 raids from Crete.
