This weekend, we're celebrating a milestone anniversary—the 75th anniversary of the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel!

Formerly known as the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel when it opened on May 25, 1950, the tunnel runs under the East River and connects Lower Manhattan to Red Hook in Brooklyn. Stretching 1.7 miles long, it is the longest continuous underwater vehicular tunnel in North America.
