Day 14 - Final Moments in the World of Balance
Locations: The Veldt, Thamasa, Jidoor, Doma Castle, Figaro Castle, Albrook, Blackjack, Floating Continent
Steps Taken: 31,433
Playtime: 3:46
Total Playtime: 16:06
Characters: Locke (L20) Terra (L21) Relm (L20) Strago (L21) Gau (L20) Edgar (L20) Sabin (L20) Celes (L20) Shadow (L20) Cyan (L20)

This was a long day full of much level/stat grinding, and because rendering took forever, then YT lowered it from 60fps to 30, this video is up late, and it took awhile to re-render and edit anyway. Sounds like the audio quality suffered a bit.

Started the day just seeing what's on the Veldt compared to the Veldt tables. Although I ultimately didn't really get anything here, I realized the following table would be Floating Continent enemies, and I wanted Meteor from Behemoth, Blowfish from Brainpan and anything else that might've been nice, so I paused the Veldt here. I did get one of these, but then the RNG moved up like 10 tables. I expected it would stay around these enemies, but I guess missing some of them had it go to Flan when I didn't expect it to. Anyway, I went over to Thamasa to grab some things (needed more rods which I grabbed offscreen later too). I knew I'd probably need some on the continent if I got stuck fighting Ninjas, and then when I wrapped this up went and talked to Gungho. You need Strago in your party to get an actual scene here, otherwise he just kinda... talks to himself. I figure I'd clear some little events like this which involve the plot before someone ruins the planet.

Up next was Doma Castle's treasure. Thanks to talking to enough soldiers there aren't any blocking the way. There isn't much treasure here, but it's always worth grabbing free stuff and hearing the Doma Castle theme again. After this, over to Figaro Castle to get some discounted items and watch a scene going into Edgar & Sabin's past. You can see this as early as right after Terra becomes an Esper in Narshe all the way until the end of the game, but I tend to find it most fitting before the Floating Continent. It's an interesting scene and explains how Sabin separated himself from Figaro after the King was poisoned "by the Empire" which we all know was just one guy: Kefka. This guy loves to poison people to death if that wasn't already obvious poisoning a whole kingdom and sparing not even children just to make a statement. The Queen's fate is left ambiguous. It was from here that I decided I wanted to find the Floating Continent, but not without leveling up Locke first so that there wasn't any risk of Cyan or Locke, whom I planned to bring having to miss a Bismark vigor +2.

Around 22:37 I'd forgotten to save, that's why the audio jumped a bit. I figured since I boarded the ship again from the same spot that I'd try to just edit it together, you mostly can't tell. I didn't exactly have to edit so much or even show leveling some people up to 20 and 21 which I did after the 1st visit to the Floating Continent, but I did. The gals, Sabin and Strago got +2 magic with Zoneseek while everyone else got +2 vigor with Bismark, though Gau I went back and forth leveling some of each. So at least explaining this is out of the way, now I can talk about the IAF, my last battle with Ultros, his pal Chupon and this imperial amalgamation called Air Force. The IAF (Sky Armor and Spit Fire enemies) actually gave me a bit of trouble since they have dangerous attacks, but they're weak to wind and Locke will throw at them. I had a close call from dying, then Ultros made his final appearance.

This is the easiest battle so far, there's nothing to really steal but a Dirk. Ultros went down fast with Terra's Fire 2 and Locke tossing Hawkeyes. You only have to beat Chupon to win, but Ultros does more damage, so he's worth taking out. Air Force I did get cheap with. I knew right off the bat he'd be a problem, so I used a Morphed Fire Rod and he only took 3 turns. Landed on the Floating Continent from there and recruited Shadow again. Charm Bangle sure came in handy as I didn't have many encounters, and only one of Ninjas where I did have to get cheap with a rod again.

On my 2nd visit to the Floating Continent, I leveled him to 20 with Bismark. His level didn't average down to 15 like I thought was maybe possible, but that's fine. Leveling him to 20 was difficult on his own, so I just walked around the save point for a few battles, dying a few times until less intimidating packs of enemies appeared. After healing up, I made it to the last save point before the Atma Weapon and ended Day 14, my longest session in a 24 days. Shadow's level ups I seem to have left out by mistake, oh well.
