Day 20
Locations: Phoenix Cave, Kohlingen, Narshe, Thamasa, Ebot's Rock, Colosseum
Steps Taken: 43,394
Playtime: 54 minutes
Total Playtime: 21:02
Characters: Celes (L22) Terra (L21) Sabin (L21) Strago (L21) Relm (L20) Edgar (L20) Shadow (L20) Gau (L20) Setzer (L20) Mog (L25)
Due to some rendering error, sometimes it drops from 60FPS to 30, don't mind that. Only happens a few times.
Got quite a bit done tonight. The Phoenix Cave was slightly tricky with Celes' group since only Charm Bangle, and Phase can't be escaped from. I'd been killing only this in packs of enemies included with it, but did have to beat 2 of them. Locke still joined at level 20 though, so I'm beginning to think level averaging only happens in the WoB. Anyway, nothing much to say until Terra's group fought the Red Dragon. This guy can be pretty tough but was using pathetic attacks. Edgar got caught by a L4 Flare which does a lot of damage, but Fire 2? Fire Ball? He can use regular Flare but L4 was all I saw. I'd have been absorbing most attacks anyway. This thing wasn't ready for Bum Rush or Terra's magic power, so he went down easily. It was onto getting Locke after along with the Phoenix Magicite and the caves treasures, only really the Valiant Knife and Flame Shield are good though. Locke's scene with Rachel is best watched than said.
Now with Locke, I made sure to treasure hunt in Narshe grabbing both the Ragnarok and Cursed Shield. Will I uncurse it? I'll see, maybe unintentionally while leveling up, otherwise likely not. After I grabbed these, I headed towards Thamasa and encountered Doomgaze. Naturally, just Sabin and Terra stood. Bum Rush and Morphed Fire 2 did great damage, and I was going to escape but thought he has to be nearly dead. The Bum Rush before he ran off, I swear the next time I find him, he's done. I kind of expected him to die on that last one but of course he escaped. I wasn't exactly prepared here, so knowing Locke had the Ragnarok still, I unequipped it quickly, but I don't believe its stats actually apply to you in battle. Moving onto Thamasa, you need Relm & Strago in the group to trigger the scenes and go to Ebot's Rock. I'd wished I kept Sabin, but Hidon was easy. Finding him was a bit tougher since the switches kept just bringing me nowhere, so I did minor editing. You need I believe 23 pieces of coral to pass the chest, lost count by 25.
Mog didn't need to come, but he sure was helpful with the Dragoon Boots and Dragon Horn equipped with the Pearl Lance, Hidon is very weak to it. You don't need to kill the Hidonites, I just got rid of most of them. The bottom left has Reflect on it, but had I brought Gau, Quake would've been good. Terra got rid of it with a Flare cast by Ragnarok, but as you could see by the end, you only need to kill Hidon. One isn't weak to fire and that's which one lived. Victory goes to me, or does it? The 1st thing Gungho said when I finished this side quest was that Hidon was back. It used to take me awhile for him to say that when I'd try to steal the Thornlet, but right away? So that's an option if I wanted another Red Jacket (don't have one yet, it's in Gogo's Cave). With Relm and Strago in my party and the Solitary Island nearby, I decided to go grab Pearl Wind and Big Guard from the weak enemies. The Beret definitely helped to wear on Relm. I'll likely try to get all Blue Magic spells, I'll see. No way I'm missing Quasar though.
Without much left to do, I headed for the Colosseum to bet some stuff, starting with the Ragnarok. Mog did lose the 1st time to a Blaster. I usually use Edgar here as the Dragoon, but Mog only took 2 tries, and ultimately due to using one of his dances, where I figured it was over, he used Snare and won like that, wow. The thing had run out all of its MP though, one reason having a Dragoon is good. If you know most of his dances, he's a terrible pick for the Colosseum. Edgar could at least Chainsaw this or abuse the Magic Block glitch which I did partially for Mog with the Force Shield. I did abuse it full on Terra who bet a Czarina Gown for a Minerva. The Moogle Suit for the Nutkin Suit is a simple trick: Wall Ring and run, since if you hit Madam she'll counter with Meteor. Edited down some since this goes on awhile.
The Nutkin Suit I didn't even save on betting because Opinicus is so easy to beat, and it's not like Terra knew Warp to escape and ruin the fight. My reward was a Genji Armor, very nice. Tried 1 more item: Strato. Where'd I even get that? The reward is a Pearl Lance, this way both Mog and Edgar can have it in Kefka's Tower, especially if they're in the same group. Decided to quit gambling here and saved, Ending Day 20. Almost there!
