2:3:4:6 Polyrhythm
I’ve been spending some time this week practicing this polyrhythm. Trying different “orchestrations” and dividing of parts, etc. Here’s something I discovered:
There’s a little “secret” you have to unlock to play this polyrhythm and it’s really, simply, the hand movements are ALWAYS a 2:3 polyrhythm movement regardless of which direction they’re heading. Changing the footing around emphasizes one meter or another, but the hands are always 2:3. Three in the Right against Two in the Left. As soon as that clicked in my brain, things got better! 😀
The hi hats are simply every other note that’s played in the Right. The bass drum accents each group of the hands’ 2:3 pattern.
