Spectacular Night Shift on the A95: Temporary Bridges Installed in Record Time! 🚧🌉
Two massive temporary bridges were installed in a remarkable operation at the Kreuzhof junction on the A95 – all under freezing temperatures and dense fog! ❄️🌫️
Using heavy-duty cranes, 45-ton modules, and a highly specialized team from France, the temporary bridges were assembled in record time. The work continued into the early morning hours to ensure traffic could flow despite the planned demolition of the aging bridges from the 1960s.

The Overall Project:
Munich is gearing up for a major infrastructure project: the Kreuzhof bridges over Fürstenrieder and Boschetsrieder streets on the A95 must be demolished and rebuilt. Constructed in 1966, the bridges show material fatigue due to “Sigma prestressing steel,” which is prone to stress corrosion cracking. Regular inspections by the city’s construction department have deemed a complete rebuild essential. The €54 million project will commence in 2024, with construction expected to take approximately three years.
Preparation for the site involves the removal of 138 trees and shrubs. Once construction is complete in 2027, these green spaces will be restored with native plants and pollinator-friendly meadows. Currently, over 65,000 vehicles, including approximately 1,900 heavy trucks, cross these bridges daily. Temporary bridges will maintain the same number of lanes to ensure uninterrupted traffic during the construction phase.
The project is closely coordinated with other infrastructure developments, particularly the construction of the Tram West Tangent. This new tram line is set to be operational by the end of 2027, running between Ammerseestraße and Ratzingerplatz. To lay the tracks beneath the A95, the Kreuzhof bridges must be completed on schedule. Simultaneously, Munich’s public utility company is working on the A96 bridge and the "environmental tunnel" beneath the railway tracks in Laim. This intricate coordination highlights the complexity of the projects, with interdependent timelines that must align to avoid delays.
