The Tempo Interval has become a staple for me towards running a faster mile. Tempo Intervals helps get me some time at a faster pace for a longer period of time, without leaving my body trashed for multiple days. Today's workout includes 6 x 1 km repeats with 90s rest starting at 1 min slower than my mile pace.
Tempo Intervals are so underrated is that a lot of programs have you jump right into a 20-30 minute tempo run. The problem with only doing this type of tempo workout is that if your body is not aerobically developed enough this "comfortably hard pace" can start way too hard or way too slow.
Tempo Intervals allow you find your rhythm with the pace, go longer in total distance and use it as a bridge to improving your traditional tempo. Enjoy the workout!
