For more than six decades, Barbara Jakobson’s Upper East Side townhouse served as a living expression of her singular taste.

Art, design and photography coexisted, arranged with a curatorial eye and an instinct for surprise. A champion of artists and a longtime trustee of the Museum of Modern Art, Jakobson cultivated careers, forged lasting relationships and lived daily with the works she loved. From Josef Albers to Robert Mapplethorpe and Jeff Koons, her collection traces an ever-evolving conversation with the art of her time.

Now, more than 200 works come to auction in Temple of Style: The Barbara Jakobson Collection, offered as a capsule grouping in our February Post-War to Present sale and a consecutive single-owner online sale, bringing forth the works that lined her home and shaped her legacy as a champion of artists and tastemaker whose influence extended well beyond her walls.
