Teething can absolutely mess with your baby’s sleep… but it usually shouldn’t derail it for weeks. 👇
When a tooth is actively breaking through the gum, your baby may be more uncomfortable, wake more frequently, have a harder time settling, or need a little extra support overnight.
For many babies, this lasts around 3–5 nights while the tooth is actually breaking through.
Then the tooth comes through, the discomfort settles, and sleep should start returning to normal.
So if your baby has been sleeping well and suddenly has a few rough nights because of teething, you don’t necessarily need to throw the entire sleep routine out the window.
During the day, try:
🧊 Cold compresses
🦷 Cold teething toys
🤍 Lots of extra comfort and cuddles
And if you’re wondering about pain relief, check in with your pediatrician about what’s appropriate for your baby.
The goal isn’t to ignore your baby’s discomfort. It’s to support them through it without accidentally creating new sleep habits that stick around long after the tooth is through.
