Defanging the Factory Strider's Mini-guns goes a long way to allowing you to destroy it. While dropping hellpods on the head of the dog might not be the most optimal way, it IS a way to make unused support weapons hellpods to good use! The hellpod itself is a fantastic way to deal damage to slow enemies like the Impaler, Factory strider, as well as close automaton fabricators and bug holes. Unfortunately, hellpods will not activate underneath illuminate warp ships. Red stratagems will though!
I'm not saying its the best way to do it. I'm just saying that, given certain situations, it is something you should be aware of, if the situation merits.

Interesting base trade. Tyranids had the early advantage, but a strategic dismantle by @ConnorBreadFromBeyond was able to take down the Hive Spire slightly before I was able to pull down the Eccliasiarchical Cathedral. I was able to drop the HQ before CBFB was able to take down all my buildings, so prolonged the match. We traded starting locations! I had a larger standing army and returned to disrupt the SoB rebuild, while maintaining map control/greater economy.
An excellent match.
