The college football rivalry between the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies may be the oldest in the state, but the one between the Baylor University Bears and Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs is the most played. TCU started its football program in 1896; Baylor, 1899. The crosstown rivals (TCU would not relocate to Fort Worth until 1910) faced off for the first time in 1899, ending in a scoreless draw. The teams would play 22 more times over the next ten years, with the November 25, 1909, meeting considered the nation's first collegiate homecoming game. The long-running series was dubbed the Bluebonnet Battle in 2023.
