Is the Tarptent Notch Li tent a good one person backpacking setup?
The updated for 2020 Tarptent Notch Li is one of the manufacturers lightest double wall shelter and something I have wanted to try for a very long time.
This tent is very lightweight and comes across as being very well-made. It was extremely quick and easy to pitch and I really like the two porches and the convenience of having doors on both sides. It does seem to be a good size and weight for long distance backpacking and solo wild camping trips in the UK.
I also like the fact that the dyneema fabric doesnโt absorb water or become saggy during the night, itโs still as taut in the morning as it was when first erected.
I am also impressed by the little things such as the magnetic tie-backs for the flysheet doors. Little things like this on the tent make it a lot nicer and easier to live with when youโre out hiking and wild camping for weeks on end.
It will be interesting to see how it fairs as a one-person backpacking tent in the UKโs variable weather as I take on some long distance walks in the very near future.
There are a few things I would add to make it that bit stronger which is mainly for mountain summit camps where high winds are common and can come on without warning. Although not needed according to many reports I will however be adding some additional guy points. From my own experience wild camping and with the simplicity to do modifications I think I will add some for my own piece of mind.
Appreciate when spending a lot of money on a tent you shouldn't need to make changes, however no tent is perfect and all have some niggles that could improve it one way or another. Would be good to see manufacturers taking on board what real world users say and think.

Out trying my new backpacking tent the Nigor WickiUp 3 tent for backpacking and wild camping.
You cant beat some hill walking and wild camping in the Scottish mountains with the Cairngorms offering some rugged yet spectacular scenery at any time of year.
The weather forecast however was to be fairly stormy and wet so decided it would be the ideal opportunity to try out my new WickiUp 3 tent for the first time.
Also decided to try out an American MRE Ration Pack I had received as a gift from a friend just back from over the pond. Had been saving it for my next outing and was keen to see how good it was and what was actually contained inside.
Heavy rain and high winds made for a memorable but sleepless trip as I forgot to bring my earplugs. However the tent so far has performed great and I am looking forward to trying it out more over the rest of the year.
