In today's tarantula science update we focus on the King Baboon Tarantula and its painful venom and ability to make sound! How cool is a tarantula that can make sound and hiss at you and potential predators?!

Tarantulas tend to be on the quiet side of pets and animals in general, but some tarantulas have the ability to stridulate, meaning that they can and will hiss at you when felt threatened. Some species are as loud as a rattle snake and you can hear them throughout the room!

The King Baboon Tarantula is no exception and has an amazing sound and attitude when it comes to their defense mechanism. Learn more about the different types of stridulation organs, which are also used as taxonomic identifiers to separate species and genera. Something new to learn about these amazing animals every day!
