In September 2018 we invited Sir Geoff Palmer, Professor Emeritus, Heriot-Watt University, to mark the opening of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery’s The Remaking of Scotland display of eighteenth and nineteenth-century portraits: nationalgalleries.org/exhibition/remaking-scotland-nation-migration-globalisation-1760-1860

Sir Geoff spoke about the many ways in which Scotland’s fortunes were linked to colonial activity and slavery in the Caribbean in this period. His fascinating historical talk took in stories of political and military action, commerce and missionary service linked to keys portraits in the NGS collection: nationalgalleries.org/art-and-artists/1962/robert-burns-1759-1796-poet

This talk was originally presented in our regular lunchtime lecture series, we are delighted to share it with you again: youtube.com/watch?v=WqMS_khKTTw
