nationalgalleries | GENERATION | 'On Form and Fiction' by Steven Campbell @nationalgalleriesofscotland | Uploaded November 2017 | Updated October 2024, 6 hours ago.
Steven Campbell emerged as the leading figure of a group of Scottish figurative painters who began to exhibit their work in the early 1980s. Campbell’s distinctive painting style, often has a surreal and mysterious quality to his work. His last major exhibition was 'The Caravan Club' in 2002, at the Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh. He died on 15 August 2007.
In this film we take a closer work at Campbell's work, ‘On Form and Fiction’ (1990), originally staged at Glasgow's Third Eye Centre and re-installed at the National Galleries of Scotland for GENERATION: 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland.
