"Sylvia" (1965) is based on the E.V. Cunnigham (Howard Fast) novel of the same title. Private investigator Alan "Mac" Maklin (George Maharis) is hired by a millionaire (Peter Lawford) to find out the shady past of his fiancee, poet, and gardener Sylvia West (Carroll Baker). As Mac begins to research and interview people from Sylvia's past, he discovers the story of a girl who overcame traumatic and difficult experiences to survive, and what's more, he begins to fall in love with her before they even meet. When they finally cross paths and begin to grow close, Mac must decide what to do next - does he reveal the truth to her husband-to-be, or does he decide to throw all caution the wind and tell Sylvia that he knows the truth - and will she forgive him? It's a very under-rated movie, somewhat episodic, but wonderfully acted. The supporting cast includes Viveca Lindfors, Edmond O'Brien, Joanne Dru, Aldo Ray, Ann Sothern, and Lloyd Bochner, just to name a few. The suite was composed by David Raksin and the lyrics were composed by Paul Francis Webster. Enjoy!

A little tribute to Colleen Moore (August 19, 1899 - January 25, 1988) who is considered one of the first onscreen flappers on film. Although she was a big star in her heyday, shes not as well-remembered as some of her contemporaries, possibly because many of her films are lost. While Moore did make the transition to sound, she left films in 1934. Her bobbed hair (which she later admitted was inspired by a Japanese doll) started a popular trend in the 1920s. In the 1960s, she penned an autobiography and also a book specifically aimed at women, teaching them how to make money in the stock market; she was also the designer and curator of the famous Colleen Moore Dollhouse. Author F. Scott Fitzgerald considered her (along with Clara Bow, Alice White, and Joan Crawford) as the embodiment of not only a flapper but the carefree lifestyle of the roaring twenties. The music is Wheres My Sweetie Hiding, performed by the California Ramblers, recorded in 1925.
