Another re-do of an older video. This film is a wonderfully shot glossy soap opera with something of a social conscience. Charlton Heston portrays "King" Howland, a wealthy man who is among the last of a dynasty in Hawaii. When his younger sister Sloan (Yvette Mimieux) returns home from school determined to marry a Hawaiian boy, Paul Kahana (James Darren) she is met with stiff opposition from her brother, who doesn't want his sister to marry a native. King keeps his mistress, Mai Chen (France Nuyen) in the shadows, ignoring the affections of his sister-in-law, Laura (Elizabeth Allen), and his distaste and anger inadvertently bring on a tragedy from which his relationship with his sister may never recover. Coping with the loss of Paul, Sloan realizes it is his half brother, Dr. Dean Kahana (George Chakiris), that she truly loves, bringing about more trouble with King as he comes to grips with his world-changing. In the end, King must decide whether to cling to his beliefs and lose everyone and everything dear to him, or open himself to change and let go of his prejudice. Directed by Guy Green, with gorgeous cinematography, this film is an enjoyable experience. James Darren sings the title tune. Enjoy!
