Just wanted to show you all a crazy counter I pulled off while sparring the other day. We weren't sparring seriously by this point in the afternoon and were mostly messing around hence why I was able to pull this off.
In essence, my sparring partner is coming in for a vertical downwards cut aimed at my head. I am in hasso no kamae and then I drop to my knees and make a rising cut to my sparring partner's body.

Today I fix up my coworkers Japanese santoku knife. It was full of chips and nicks and he was finding it hard to use in the kitchen. Hopefully after the repair he will find it a little nicer to use. I also fixed up the handle and the tip so that its comfortable in the hand and hopefully the tip wont break again. I used a 400 and 1000 grit diamond whetstone to grind back the defects and then polish and sharpen the blade.
The way I fix up the blade may not be the way everyone else does it or even the best way to do it but I tried my best.

Swordsman tries archery!
Today we go to Coastal Archery Indoor Archery Range to try some archery with recurve bows. Im usually a swordsman so today it was fun to take a step out of my comfort zone.
Thanks to Coastal Archery for giving us a great time and allowing us to film inside. The staff were very helpful and wanted us to have as much fun as possible.

Were back with another clickbaity title, but its not to say kikentaiichi as a concept is wrong, but more the way its taught is often too rigid in saying that the hands and feet must move together and things could be far better if we separate the two depending on our intention.

Today I try and make pool noodles harder to cut! Ill be practising rokudan-giri on the pool noodles and then I try and increase the difficulty by making some small modifications to the pool noodles. Pool noodles are cheap and easy to use as targets and make little mess so they are a great tameshigiri target, however, they arent very hard to cut if you have good edge alignment. So today I try and make them harder to cut and well see if it works.

-Pool noodles-these require good edge alignment or they will not cut, very little power required. Also pool noodles that have been bent or manhandled have their fibres break and become incredibly difficult to cut as they have a tendency to bend instead

Today I review the Byeolungeom made by Goryero Swords. Its an ornate traditional sword based on the byeolungeom from the Korean Joseon dynasty used by the royal guards. I talk about its features and some issues and also do some cutting with the sword. It was meant to be a quick review but ended up being quite long.

Today I talk about my experience with Seitei Iaido. Im still very much a beginner but it has been a fun journey for the last 4 weeks and Ill continue to train hard. Ive been training at Suigetsu Iaido if anyone from Sydney wants to come check it out.
Heres a snapshot of my first 8 kata, I still havent learnt all 12 but its a good picture of my form at present. Plenty to improve upon and plenty to learn. Even just watching this video I can quickly spot my mistakes. Fixing them is another matter though.
