AiAi talks about the beautiful sunsets at Stone Valley, but when night falls, more stages become available, and these are far, far harder than the ones you see when first visiting Stone Valley. Again, there’s no story here, no conflict with the Gala Family or Easel to deal with, but these stags may be closer to the Super Monkey Ball that you remember.
The background details, including the stone monkeys who live in the area and encouraging you to clear the stages, are still as enormous as ever.
The character I use is Meemee again. No reason for that, just that I wanted to use every customizable character twice, which, if things go as I remember, will include all of them except for Baby (no offense to fans of Baby, and I have nothing against him either, just that I couldn’t figure a useful place for him, and there are a lot of videos on YouTube already using Baby).
00:00 - 5 EX-01 Switch Seesaw
00:28 - 5 EX-02 Cyclone
01:58 - 5 EX-03 Joint Roads
03:29 - 5 EX-04 Turtle Shells
04:45 - 5 EX-05 Push-Bar Street
06:45 - 5 EX-06 Big Spinners
07:31 - 5 EX-07 Spinning Zones
09:58 - 5 EX-08 Whiplash
11:01 - 5 EX-09 Donut Holes
11:44 - 5 EX-10 Scary Road
The incline in 5 EX-02, Cyclone, slants leftward, which is hard to see when you’re approach it. I fell off due to that.
The challenge in 5 EX-04, Turtle Shells, is how to gain and keep the height necessary to reach the goal. The platforms themselves are flat and huge, so falling off isn’t as big a danger as running out of time.
5 EX-05, Push-Bar Street, is a sequel to 5-05, Push-Bar Road (and is even in the same location among the EX stages as in the regular story stages). This time, there is no ground below to catch you, and the push-bars come from both sides, the second part has turns, and the third part moves back and forth.
For 5 EX-06, Big Spinners, my initial approach was to Spin Dash and bounce off the lip on the starting platform to fly straight for the goal, but it wasn’t working, so I just played this normally.
The length of 5 EX-07, Spinning Zones, as well as the curved narrow paths and the spinning bars dictating how fast you can travel along them, makes this one of the harder stages in this set for me.
5 EX-08, Whiplash, is considered one of the hardest stages in the entire game, but I didn’t find it so hard. What you need is patience, and you can scoot by even the fastest moving obstacles at the end by picking a side (left or right) and proceeding block by block.
5 EX-10, Scary Road, is also considered one of the hardest stages, and this time, I agree. It takes the form of a rickety wooden bridge with most of its planks gone, and the difficulty lies not just in the narrow planks, but the gaps between them getting the ball stuck and that it curbes downwards toward the middle, so it’s not perpendicular with gravity. I found the best solution is just to fling yourself with Spin Dashes over the gaps.
