I procrastinated for long enough…I should at least get this out before the Splatoon Raiders Splatfest goes live. Could be worse than two and a half months, right? The main thing was making this thumbnail; I needed a good amount of lead time for it. I also had 15 matches saved, and I needed to whittle it down to 6 to ensure the video doesn’t keep running for too long. It’s now summer, but hey, better late than never.
SpringFest 2026 is a repeat of the original SpringFest in 2024, with the same prompt: what do you prefer, Baby Chicks, Li’l Bunnies, or Bear Cubs. I chose Bear Cubs last time; I’ll stick with the Bear Cubs again this time. The selections, of course, mean this is actually Easter-themed, and there are popular candies associated with them too: Peeps, chocolate bunnies, and gummy bears, hence why I chose a picture of gummy bears for the thumbnail this time around.
I messed around with the Torrentz Hydra Splatling towards the end of this Splatfest; I saved a couple of matches from it.
02:16 - Match #1
Crableg Capital
Splatfest Turf War
Sploosh-o-Matic
Color Scheme: SpringFest 2025
Song: “Till Depth Do Us Part” by Deep Cut
Titles: (none)
I think this is the first match I’ve put up that had the “Flow Aura” mechanic kick in. You see, if you can get a series of actions (mainly involving splatting opponents, either directly or via assist), you can enter the Flow Aura state, where the ground around you is immediately inked, you gain increased speed, and your character begins to sparkle. It really only happens when you perform exceptionally well compared to your opponents, usually only occurs late into a match bcause of the large number of actions you need to successfully accomplish, and it was really only introduced earlier in the year. Thanks in part to that Flow Aura state, we were able to turn things around and turn a losing situation into a winning one.
05:58 - Match #2
Mincemeat Metalworks
Splatfest Turf War
Painbrush
Color Scheme: SpringFest 2025
Song: “Fins in the Air” by Deep Cut
Titles: Variety Gang (Good Guys), Hi-Topped Octo Squad (Bad Guys)
Here is somwthing I encounter all too often: teammates go straight to the middle to battle. Might work in some Anarchy modes, but not Turf War, considering some of them had advanced pretty far in. I did eventually deploy a Wave Breaker to signal to them to come back though, as it marked where some opponents were. I had a bit of trouble finding teammates for the rest of the match though.
09:38 - Match #3
Robo ROM-en
Splatfest Turf War (10x Battle)
Neo Sploosh-o-matic
Color Scheme: SpringFest 2025
Song: “Fins in the Air” by Deep Cut
Titles: Variety Society (Good Guys), Variety Gang (Bad Guys)
I had the option to go further in, but I don’t do that. I’ve seen enough matches where opponents break through unnoticed, ink the middle, and ink our side, while the whole team never discovers this until Judd and Judd Jr. measure the ground inked. Kind of a shame that my teammates didn’t use my Squid Beakons much though. I have some spots on each stage I like to put them in that are pretty safe to Super Jump to.
13:35 - Halftime! Frye’s team is, as usual, in third place…
14:34 - Match #4
Crableg Capital
Tricolor Battle (Attackers)
Painbrush
Color Scheme: SpringFest 2025
Song: “Till Depth Do Us Part” by Deep Cut
Rarely do I actually get the Ultra Signal, so here is an instance in which I did. Thank you, teammate, for defending me until we could claim it. Twice! It could not have been easy with the Aerospray RG.
18:18 - Match #5
Crableg Capital
Tricolor Battle (Defenders)
Torrentz Hydra Splatling
Color Scheme: SpringFest 2025
Song: “Fins in the Air” by Deep Cut
It seems the Torrentz Hydra Splatling is great at protecting the Ultra Signal from opponents coming over, as you can put the Big Bubble right on it, put a Sprinkler in it to make it unsafe for opponents to be in the bubble, and shoot from a distance. Of course, it’s way harder to do that when you’re splatted and the team is trying to make its way over.
22:04 - Match #6
Umami Ruins
Splatfest Turf War
Torrentz Hydra Splatling
Color Scheme: SpringFest 2025
Song: “Liquid Sunshine” by Squid Sisters feat. Ian BGM
Titles: (none)
I’m not that great with Chargers, so I had a tough time getting the hang of the Torrentz Hydra Splatling, as it demands you pck a secure spot and make it more secure with its kit. However, I was able to stay so secure in this match that I never got splatted. I also got the Aura Flow going (as I did in the previous match).
25:46 - Results! Poor Team Li’l Bunnies, but it looks like I was personally in good company. I wonder how much of the people on the team was there because it’s Big Man’s Team and how much was a genuine preference between the critters.
