Here we are... The final fortress. The main baddie of Story Mode, Dr. Bad-Boon, has somehow managed to afford a giant base in the outer reaches of space. And it comes with a laser that has the power to make bananas taste like curry! This CANNOT stand!! World 10 is exclusive to Story Mode, so don't worry about running into them in Challenge Mode. This is a good thing, as most of these stages are time-consuming by nature. More-often-than-not you'll be racing towards the goal with less than 10 seconds left on the clock. The biggest offenders being Gimmick, Invisible, Postmodern, and Labyrinth. ESPECIALLY Labyrinth... *shakes fist angrily*
*AHEM* Likewise in Challenge Mode, you'll be entering the bad doctor's lair for the finale of the Beginner and Advanced levels, if you've finished the main ones without a continue at least. Thus, it serves the same purpose as Space Colony: a place where Extra Stages can call home. HOWEVER, it is nowhere to be found on Expert Extra. What's the deal? Following in its big brother's footsteps, beating the 10 ultra-devious Expert Extra stages without a continue unlocks, you guessed it, MASTER. Unlike the first game, though, you can access Master anytime after reaching the first stage, which is great for impatient people and masochists. As you can guess, Master is BRUTAL. But, you're still in the colony for Master 1-5... Oh wait! There's the base! It was hiding in the latter half, the sneaky devil. So I guess we can pack up our bags and go... Wait. Whaddya mean that's not it? There's MORE?!
That's right! If you've managed to get through Master without a continue (which is actually easier than it sounds thanks it to it being readily available) you unlock the mythical Master EXTRA. And it takes place ENTIRELY inside the base. How fitting. Clear these while keeping your sanity and you have conquered everything this game can possibly throw at you! So, with 10 stages in Story, 5 in Beginner Extra, 5 in Advanced Extra, 5 in Master, and all 10 Master EXTRA, that makes a total of 35 stages. This ties it with Space Colony for the most used backdrop in the game.
