NOTE : little mix-up on the actual creator of this world. At first I thought its OnHuntinG just under a different name, but then I was told theyre actually 2 different guys, so my apologies for the confusion.
Heres another letter world : World X. Theres really not much to say : really short and easy, so Im guessing its still a prototype. Its still functional even in this early state, but it needs more work done before it can be anything more than a bootleg. You have the DGV seal of approval for now, just because the game works as it should, with no bugs or glitches, so you may start work on it more seriously if you want to turn this into a proper game. Time for World P by the creator of the game himself, Mariovariable ! Honestly, I had no idea it would be so long: not 4 levels like in most other Mario games, not 5, but 6 whole levels ! SIX ! Its also not the most fast-paced game out there either, being more puzzle and maze-oriented than other MF games. Quality-wise, the game is very well done and I cant complain about anything as far as structure and composition are concerned, but the main issue here is the length, which wouldnt be a problem either if there were a continue feature of some sort ! Although there are some 1-UP mushrooms that acts as infinite continues, not every level has these and some are not that easy to get either, so in the end youll just wish there was a real continue option instead. Its a good world overall, just kinda slow-paced for my taste, since Im more into fast-paced action-packed levels where you run from one side of the level to the other, dodging enemies and jumping obstacles, but if you enjoy taking your time and dont mind a lengthy world, then youll enjoy it more than I did. Not bad overall - approved. Danny out. Mario Forever Remake - World P by Mariovariable Walkthrough (Longplay) [HD]](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/96-A4vN69uE/mqdefault.jpg)

NOTE: the audio had copyright issues so youll hear it cutting out sometimes. Sorry for that...it happened way after I uploaded the vid and could no longer do anything about it.
After World 11, it was time to try World 12 as well. What can I say : its not any easier than the previous one. Even so, after a lot of effort, I managed to get to the castle, but once I got there I got my ass handed to me and I gave up, mainly because the previous levels are long and tedious (especially the third one which is an underwater maze). I also stopped playing because of a bug that makes you lose a life when starting the castle. The same thing happened in World L I think : before the level actually starts, the game shows me a random screen, the death sequence plays and I lose a life before finally being placed at the proper beginning. If youre down to your last life, you wont even get to see what the castle looks like, because youll get game over. Theres not a damn thing you can do about it : you just sit there and wonder what the hell just happened ! The same sort of thing happens in level 3 (the maze level), although its pretty much the opposite : you EARN lives instead of losing them : after the death tune plays on a random screen, youll start the level like normal, but with 3 lives instead of how many you had, and the best part is that whenever you die, the lives will reset back to 3, meaning youll get infinite continues. It would be slightly annoying if you had more than 3 lives and lost the extra ones when entering the level, but I didnt play long enough to earn that many and find out, although I fear its likely to happen, since the game sets the life counter to 3 no matter what. At first I thought this was the continue feature, which wouldve still been really random but helpful nonetheless, but I highly doubt it was intended, since it doesnt happen in any other level and I dont know if it actually happens every time, or it was just a one-off incident when I played. Of course, there are no continues (except for level 3), so that also adds to the boredom factor. Just because I sucked and couldnt finish it, doesnt automatically mean its bad - thats not the reason I didnt approve it. The real reason is the glitch in the last two levels that needs to be worked out...or rather in the last level alone, since I dont exactly mind the one in level 3, since its beneficial. It wouldve been better if it were the other way around - the castle is insanely difficult and you can tell by the fact that I couldnt last more than 1 minute ! Thats it for now. Danny out ! Watch Version 2.7 here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxxm1DntGzw
Heres the newly released Mario Forever 2015. Since this is a beta game, I wont be too critical about it, but anyone playing it would be faced with a pretty long list of bugs that need to be worked out before this can be called a real game : some of the sound effects are missing, the soundtracks sometimes cut out or dont play at all in certain levels, the controls dont always respond on the map screen, the save feature doesnt work and various other graphical or stability glitches need solving. Even with all the glitches aside, the game still manages to be a very difficult one : right from the start youre faced with some pretty tough hazards, like flamethrowers, volcanoes, homing bullets, falling blocks, lava and a spiked ceiling of doom (as I like to call it). It has potential, but the glitches is what ruin it, especially the continue function which doesnt work or wasnt programmed at all. Again, this game is still undergoing development, so Im expecting to see some improvement in the upcoming versions. Ive been told that a new one has already been released, so please provide me with the link so I may hopefully finish what I stared - since I gave up after discovering that I lose my progress regardless of where I die (even in a whole new map, at which point the game should start me off at that map every time). Im going to give it the benefit of being beta, so I wont be too harsh on it for on, but if some of the problems persist in the later versions too, then Ill have no choice but to rage ! :)) Danny out for now. Heres another game in the Softendo family: New Super Mario Forever. As you may have guessed from the title, its similar to New Super Mario Bros on the Wii, though I wouldnt call it a rip-off since it doesnt actually copy anything directly from the Wii game - it borrows the concept, enemies and powerups and reuses them in its own way to create something new. The overall concept is the same as Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES: same map format with 8 different worlds and 7 sons of Bowser you have to defeat, same enemies and even some levels look the same, so youll feel at home with this one. Graphically speaking, the game is decent, considering what it is, though the animations of Mario walking and jumping look a bit off and I noticed a lot of people making fun of this in the comments. Gameplay-wise, one thing I can say I dont like is how the screen takes too long to pan when you jump to the top - it freezes for about 1 second before it finally reorients. This could cost you a hit if you jump right into an enemy that you cant see - it should adjust instantly to keep Mario in the middle of the screen at all time. The music and sounds are very good as well: you get musical variety and the quality of the soundtracks is awesome. One thing they decided to change and I dont really appreciate is the sounds Mario makes when jumping (stuff like Ah ! Yeah ! HoUh !). Since its a platform game where you jump a lot, they tend to get irritating after a while and you cant turn them off - you have to turn off all other sound effects too. I would have much preferred the traditional jump sound effects of all the other games, or at least have an option to toggle the voice on and off, independent of the sound effects. Another thing that ruins what would otherwise be a great Mario fan game is the overwhelming amount of spelling and grammar errors - thought NES games were bad at this when they got ported from their japanese versions ? Well, look again: the word order is incorrect and many words are misspelled, making the messages incoherent and even confusing to read, especially in the early levels where youre given instructions on how to perform certain moves - I actually had to read a message twice before figuring out how to do the wall jump. Im aware the maker of the game is not a native English speaker, but couldnt he at least get someone to proof-read the game before releasing it to the public ? I kinda smell Google Translate here ! To be perfectly fair its not too much of a problem as far as playability is concerned, because its the gameplay that counts in Mario games and not so much the dialogues. If it were an RPG like Castlevania where you had to rely on clues and dialogues to progress, then yes, it would be a big issue indeed, but in an action-oriented game like this, we can let it slide. Other than that, theres no need to go into great detail about the game since its self explanatory - if you dont know how to play a Mario game then you shouldnt call yourself a gamer ! Aside from the F it gets in grammar, the game gets an overall A from Daniels Game Vault. Softendo pretty much did everything they could to recreate a Wii game on the PC, which is no easy task considering how complex it is, so for that I can only applaud them ! Well done ! Original Minus Worlds 1.0: http://youtu.be/nDW_pEjLY80
The first time playing The Minus Worlds by Crist1919 I was absolutely delighted by the overall quality of his work: awesome selection of soundtracks, optimal difficulty and challenging levels that were also fun as all hell to play. Being that it was still in an early stage, the original game only had 2 worlds, so when the creator personally informed me that he released version 1.5 with 2 more worlds, I just had to play it ! Probably the biggest most important addition is the continue feature that lets you retry from the beginning of the level you died on, rather than having to go back to the first level of the world whenever you run out of lives. After so many fan games that lacked this essential feature, this one finally got it right, and it was absolutely necessary and justified to have continues here, because the later levels are very long and kinda difficult, so theres no way one would have the patience and energy to play them again after making it far into the game, so that alone is enough to make you worship this guy. This is as close to perfection as a fan game can get, however one thing I can say I dont like is that the continue feature doesnt start you at the latest checkpoint - it always puts you back at the beginning of the level, which is not that bad, but still a waste of time and stamina to make it back, though I guess this would be pushing it. Another issue related to this one is that some levels have sub-areas which are still considered part of the main level, so when you die in the sub-area (e.g. the boss battle), you go back to the latest checkpoint you set, which is always pretty far back and requires you to risk a life going through the second half of the level again before making it back. If you lose your last life its even worse, because the continue feature puts you all the way back at the beginning of the level - not the sub-area or checkpoint. There are a couple of ways to fix this: either make the continue option put you back at the checkpoint, or treat these sub-areas as individual levels so the continue option starts you off there, just as if it were a regular level. It might sound like making the game too easy that way, but the challenge level is up there, so it would be rewarding to cut you some slack. The beauty of any game, regardless of the genre, is playing it in its entirety, not being stuck on the same level for hours on end ! That doesnt mean it happens here, although I cant deny that there were some parts that kicked my a$$ a bit - you gotta have some of those too, otherwise it would be too easy, which is not good either. Its all about balance, and Crist managed to get it right for the most part. With that being said, this game continues to be the best Mario Forever fan game Ive played as of making this video, so you get a gold medal once again Crist. Youre the best ! Keep it up like this, and make sure you release the rest of the worlds and possibly even more if you can, since theyre so well done and so enjoyable to play that you dont want to stop. Danny out ! After the disappointment that was World Z, I was hoping Id find something better to play...and I did : this is World DB by the guy whose name is too long to actually spell, thats why I call him Number Guy :)) Anyway, Number Guy here, along with Chomikmg3, managed to deliver a great little fan game ! You can tell he put some effort into it, since it has balanced difficulty, plenty of powerups and is visually appealing overall. The only thing that needs improving, and I cant believe Im asking for this, is the difficulty of the last boss, as hes a bit too easy. The game is enjoyable overall, so you dont really fell the need for an equally easy boss to compensate. There are also continue mushrooms near most of the checkpoints, or at least other ways of recovering lost lives, like taking out 7 enemies in a row with a turtle shell, or the classic way of collecting 100 coins, which are also abundant. Other than Bowser which is too easy to defeat, I cant really find anything bad to say about this one ! Id call it short but sweet. Not bad - give it a shot ! Approved by the DGV council.
