Nintendo actually struggled with developing a sequel to the original SMB from its massive success.
Their first concept, what is now known as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, was too similar to the original game & felt it was too challenging. Finally, delivering upon the inspiration of the original concept & creating a second official sequel, Nintendo cosmetically modified a prototype video game - 𝙔𝙪𝙢𝙚 𝙆𝙤̄𝙟𝙤̄: 𝘿𝙤𝙠𝙞 𝘿𝙤𝙠𝙞 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙘 - to become the international release of Super Mario Bros. 2!

The world is not ready for this remix!!! The iconic Shantae soundtrack Burning Town (labeled We Love Burning Town in Pirates Curse) is by far one of the coolest soundtracks Ive ever heard!! Major shoutout to Jake Kaufman for producing such luxurious melodic segments. And to be totally honest, this style of music is so incredibly fun to make I cant even describe it – its almost on par with my love for producing Electro Swing!
And of course this remix could not have sounded better without @NoteBlock, who just celebrated his 10-year anniversary of YouTube remixes, which is just an incredible achievement! I could not be more thrilled to introduce a new collaborator to the channel: Ian Cowell!!! 🎸
Ian is a phenomenal guitarist in the VGM scene – I first discovered him performing at MAGFest 2023. His performance was titled Ian Cowell & His Band of Exceptional Goblins – with a name like that I couldnt possibly pass that up! Lo & behold, this guy starts jamming some of my favorite nostalgic tunes with some of the best musicians Ive ever heard!
I then got to see him perform again at VGMCon 2023 & most recently saw his performance at MAGFest 2024; I could not help myself but to reach out so we could produce this epic cover of the Wave Race 64 Opening Theme! Not to mention, this is one of his favorite songs 😎
As somebody who primarily produces electronic music, I look up to musicians that can actually play an instrument; Im continuously told that DJing is equivalent to playing a live instrument, but I still feel like its not the same. I will admit, its nice to hold an instrument to actually play notes & chords to a remix! This is also my first time recording with a green screen, so I apologize for my awkwardness, haha. I think I nailed it, though! 😅
