Sumpter Valley Railway is home to W.H. Eccles Lumber Co. Heisler #3. This locomotive is 100 years old, and is still burning wood.. One thing about a wood burning locomotive is that they don't make a good smoke plume. When the SVRY hosts their annual photographers trains, one of the things that the photographers always request is lots of smoke since it makes for a dramatic photo. Well since the Heisler can't make good smoke, the whistle at least gives it a good looking steam plume, which also makes the event extra special for those of us shooting video.
