My grandfather was born and grew up in Akron Ohio. After he moved out of Ohio, he would regularly go back to visit his family there. He talked many times about riding the B&O "back home".
This horn is a 1957 S3L. 1957 is when the power chambers changed from bronze to aluminum. These chambers are aluminum tab backs. It has a single piece close circle 25 bell, the 25 having changed from a two piece casting to a single piece in 1956. In 1958 the 31 bell changed from a two piece casting as on this horn to a single piece.
1957 means this horn came off a passenger service GP9. I painted the colors biased off the B&O 1950's passenger paint scheme. Though impossible to know, since this horn was a passenger service horn my grandfather may have ridden behind it at some point.
