Join me on another Lake District summit camp, this time I'm trying out my new tent, the Durston X-mid 2 pro, the worlds lightest 2 person tent of its size, weighing in at a measly 509 grams!!! We start this adventure by parking up just outside the village of Grasmere, walking round the base of Helm Crag and Steel fell. Then we walk up the valley past a beautiful waterfall where we take the first break. From there we head to the beautiful Easedale tarn, and cut up the mountains to our summit destination for the night, Tarn crag. The first pitch of the X-mid 2 pro didn't quite go to plan, we were chasing time a little, and halfway through setting up I realised I didn't quite have enough space to accommodate the footprint of the tent, and didn't have time to relocate. I made it work, just, but this style of tent relies on good tension between the 4 corner peg out points, and I just couldn't get that on one corner due to a small grassy bank. The wind speeds picked up to around 40 mph overnight, and although it wasn't pitched perfectly the tent stood strong (although a bit flappy) first impressions of this tent are included in the video, and within the next few weeks I look forward to giving you a full review 😀 There's great views en route, and from the summit over the tarn, Sca fell pike and the Fairfield peaks.
