On 24 June 1963, Sugar Ray Robinson faced Joey Giardello in a middleweight bout at Convention Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Giardello won the fight via unanimous decision over 10 rounds, using a disciplined and consistent attack to control the pace. He pressured Robinson throughout the bout, limiting his movement and landing effective combinations to both body and head.

Robinson, then 42 years old, showed flashes of his former brilliance and rallied in the middle rounds, but Giardello’s steady pressure and work rate secured the decision. Robinson was also knocked down in the fourth round during the contest.
