Subclinical hypothyroidism — a TSH between 5.5 and 10 — was taught as inconsequential during Dr. Hartman’s training. About 10% of women have it. Research shows it increases heart disease risk by 68%. Symptoms include hair loss, weight gain, depression, anxiety, brain fog, abnormal cycles, and infertility. A full thyroid panel — TSH, free T4, free T3, reverse T3, thyroid antibodies, and thyroglobulin — is needed to identify it. Antibodies can be positive years before a formal diagnosis.
