One reanimated skeleton can chop down two rows of trees instead of one. I used Geometric Placement to place the pinecones as close as possible in straight lines. Each row is 40 pinecones long, which comes to 20 turf tiles.
This was done with commands and Lights-Out mode for demonstration purposes. When I said vanilla, I was referencing to the default day-clock settings over just an all night setting for lights out.
My setup has two of these tree areas next to each other, meaning there are twelve rows of pinecones. During long nights, on average, I normally get through about four rows of pinecones. So it takes about three nights to get through the whole thing if distractions are kept to a minimum.
Not only that, if your world has progressed long enough for the tree guard spawn rates to have maxed out like mine, on average, I get three treeguards per night.
18 living logs a night for three sessions is 54 living logs total! That's just stupidly efficient. Not to mention that you get about 6-8 scaled chests worth of wood from the Tier 3 trees that now needs collecting.
This also works with Tier 1 trees, so if you have too many pinecones and only want living logs, you can use this to spawn the treeguards, kill them for the living logs, and then just burn the rest. Keep in mind that Tier 1 trees don't drop saplings.
