On this second day of the STS-81 mission, the flight crew, Cmdr. Michael A. Baker, Pilot Brent W. Jett, Mission Specialists, John M. Grunsfeld, Marsha S. Ivins, Peter J.K. Wisoff, and Jerry M. Linenger, continue to close in on The Mir Space Station. Payload work involves activating a radiation monitor in addition to the Biorack multipurpose facility which is designed to investigate the effects of microgravity and radiation on plant, tissue, cell and fungus growth. Mission Specialists Jeff Wisoff and John Grunsfeld spend much of their work day setting up and performing initial work in the experiment's glove box. Released Jan. 1997.
