hree years ago, Zoe spilled a little bit of hand sanitizer on the floor. that’s it. something most people would forget about in seconds.

but her thoughts didn’t let it stay small. it went from what if someone slips to
what if someone slips, dies, and it’s my fault? what if I go to jail? what if I never see my family again?

so she stayed. wiping the same spot over and over. using tissues, her shoe, pacing back and forth trying to make sure it was dry.

every time it felt “done,” another thought showed up: what if you missed a spot? what if it’s still wet?
what if you’re not seeing it right?

two hours later, she was still there. and even after she left, the thoughts didn’t. she kept replaying it for weeks, wondering if something bad could still happen because of her.

this is how OCD can show up. not as being careless, but as feeling too responsible for things you can’t actually control.

if this feels familiar, you’re not alone. there’s real, specialized treatment that can help.
