‘Summer Time’ in Wicklow
Here’s the 2nd film in my series on ‘Old Time and New Time’ in Ireland.
This was filmed yesterday in 2018 on the farm of Joan and Sammy Woolmington outside Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. Up until the early 1990’s Joan and Sammy were operating on ‘Old Time’ or ’Summer Time’ as Sammy calls it, where they were one hour behind their neighbours.
Daylight Saving Time (New Time) was first introduced into Ireland in 1916, however Sammy and his family never followed suit and it took them 75 years before they adjusted their clocks to match the rest of the country.
Enjoy.
