I was talking to the great Paddy Berry on Sunday at a singing session in Wexford and he came out to the hallway as we were leaving. All he wanted to do was talk and have the craic. In the middle of the chat he came out with a little verse about “pop goes the weasel” while he also shared another little ditty about “a black-and-white jackass that was lost or stolen in Camolin”
Anyway - here it is - direct from Paddy himself.
“A haypenny for a cotton ball, a penny for a needle, and that’s the way the money goes and pop goes the weasel”
“Lost and stolen in the land of Camolin
A black and white jackass within two years of foaling”
