My Father and I were blessed with a ride out on Steve McClune's lovely steam launch 'Mary Rose' on the Whanganui River, New Zealand. Here is a clip of our ride with some Whanganui history from Steve. This was just a start to an epic day with him. He was incredibly gracious and gave us the grand tour of all kinds of awesome steam-themed places during our whirlwind trip. My father and I cannot thank him enough for his hospitality, energy, and encyclopedic knowledge of all things steam. Thank you for watching! (There is much more footage to come!)
Hull: 16' wooden kauri (native Aotearoa timber), clinker built, circa 1946
Boiler: Coal-fired Vertical Firetube, with dry firebox. 100psi
Engine: Single cylinder by Wayne Larson of Auckland, New Zealand. 2-1/2" bore 2-3/4" stroke, balanced slide valve and Stevenson's valve gear. The engine was VERY quiet. The audio was awfully sensitive and didn't do the engine justice. Steve pulls the engine every season to tighten up bearing clearances. It really showed in how well everything ran.
Propeller: 13x25"
