A day out with friends on Lake Rotorangi, Taranaki, New Zealand on Steve McClune's 'Mary Rose' and Stuart Lee's 'Kelly Maree'. We braved the windy mountain road (looks like a snake with a broken back, with shear drop-offs) down into the Patea River canyon, and everything the Taniwha and Murphy threw at us. The weather was perfect, the scenery awesome, and the company first class. We only made it a fraction of the way up the lake from where we put in at Patea Dam. A perfect lake for steaming and perhaps the site of a future 'Steamboat Do.' Peaceful, with many coves and inlets to snoop up. There is sooo much more to explore of Rotorangi.
I am forever grateful to Christine and Stuart Lee for their hospitality, and Stuart's trusting me with firing 'Kelly Maree' with those strange black rocks. To Steve McClune for his hospitality, kindness, trusting me with his beautiful 'Mary Rose', and his Marshall Steam Roller. As well as Daniel Hicks for his hospitality, and his 'jacking up' some incredible opportunities in 'The Land Of The Long Cloud'.
