Testing 30 Steam Deck 3D prints in 30 days. Day 11: TATE Mode joycon adapters for vertical gaming.
✅ 2 hour print
✅ 48g PETG (for vent heat resistance)
✅ Joycon adapters for handheld vertical play
✅ Vertical stand for desk gaming alternative
✅ Steam officially supports joycon pairing
TATE mode = vertical gaming for vertical scrolling games. In landscape, games like Mushihimesama and Ikaruga use a fraction of the screen with black bars. In portrait with joycons mounted top and bottom? Full screen, the way arcade shmups were designed.
INSTALLATION: Line up the two teeth with first and last vent holes, then clip the other side. Back notches align with Deck screw holes for security. Remove by pulling the side opposite vents. Get it right—wrong installation damages vents.
JOYCON SETUP: Steam officially supports pairing now. Enable both as a pair in desktop mode, slide them into adapters—they lock in firmly with no wobble. Comfortable weight balance, thumbs reach all buttons easily.
GAMES: Works with Steam games (Super XYX, Mushihimesama, Downwell, Ikaruga) and emulation (hundreds more vertical games). Screen feels worlds bigger in vertical—way better than black bars.
ALTERNATIVE: Don't have joycons ($80)? Print the vertical stand instead, use any controller you own. Stand allows two-player and larger controls. Different use cases: adapters for handheld, stand for desk.
For shmup and vertical game players, this is an awesome solution. For everyone else, skip it.
Verdict: Only If You Need It 🟡

About:
My Minimalist Gaming & Entertainment Setup Tour 2022. A minimal gaming TV setup with Xbox Series X, 65” CX OLED and Sonos Arc Soundbar.
Ill cover everything in my setup, from the TV to the speaker, gaming accessories and smart lights.
Sonos, Inc. is an American developer and manufacturer of audio products best known for its multi-room audio products. The company was founded in 2002 by John MacFarlane, Craig Shelburne, Tom Cullen, and Trung Mai. Patrick Spence was named CEO in January 2017[2]
Sonos has partnered with over 100 companies that offer music services, including Pandora, iHeartRadio, Spotify, MOG, QQ Music, and Amazon Music.[3] Sonos products work with the three major voice assistants: Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri, although the latter is currently only supported through Apples Home app.[4] In 2019 Sonos acquired Snips SAS, a privacy-focused AI voice platform for connected devices with the goal to bring a music-specific assistant to its devices.[5]
The Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S (collectively, the Xbox Series X/S[b]) are home video game consoles developed by Microsoft. They were both released on November 10, 2020, as the fourth generation of the Xbox console family, succeeding the Xbox One. Along with Sonys PlayStation 5, also released in November 2020, the Xbox Series X and Series S are part of the ninth generation of video game consoles.[3]
Rumors regarding the consoles first emerged in early 2019, with the line as a whole codenamed Scarlett and consisting of high-end and lower-end models codenamed Anaconda and Lockhart respectively; Anaconda was teased by Microsoft during E3 2019 under the codename Project Scarlett, and unveiled during The Game Awards in December as Xbox Series X. On September 8, 2020, Microsoft unveiled the lower-end model, Xbox Series S.
As with the Xbox One line, the consoles utilize an AMD CPU and GPU. Both models feature a new storage architecture based around solid-state drives to reduce loading times, support for hardware-accelerated ray-tracing and spatial audio, the ability to convert games to high-dynamic-range (HDR) color using machine learning (Auto HDR), support for HDMI 2.1 variable refresh rate and low-latency modes, and updated controllers. Xbox Series X was designed to nominally render games in 2160p (4K resolution) at 60 frames per second (FPS). The lower-end Xbox Series S, which has reduced specifications and does not include an optical drive, was designed to nominally render games in 1440p at 60 FPS, with support for 4K upscaling. The PlayStation 5 (PS5) is a home video game console developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was announced as the successor to the PlayStation 4 in April 2019, was launched on November 12, 2020, in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America, and South Korea, and was released worldwide one week later. The PS5 is part of the ninth generation of video game consoles, along with Microsofts Xbox Series X/S consoles, which were released in the same month.
The base model includes an optical disc drive compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. The Digital Edition lacks this drive, as a lower-cost model for buying games only through download. The two variants were launched simultaneously.
The PlayStation 5s main hardware features include a solid-state drive customized for high-speed data streaming to enable significant improvements in storage performance, an AMD GPU capable of 4K resolution display at up to 120 frames per second, hardware-accelerated ray tracing for realistic lighting and reflections, and the Tempest Engine for hardware-accelerated 3D audio effects. Other features include the DualSense controller with haptic feedback, backward compatibility with the majority of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR games, and the PlayStation VR2 headset.
Dolby Atmos is a surround sound technology developed by Dolby Laboratories. It expands on existing surround sound systems by adding height channels, allowing sounds to be interpreted as three-dimensional objects with neither horizontal nor vertical limitation.[1][2] Following the release of Atmos for the cinema market, a variety of consumer technologies has been released under the Atmos brand, using in-ceiling and up-firing speakers.
Dolby Atmos technology allows up to 128 audio tracks plus associated spatial audio description metadata (location or pan automation data, data about the sounds movement, type, intensity, speed and volume) to be distributed to theaters for optimal, dynamic rendering to loudspeakers based on the theater capabilities.[9] Each audio track can be assigned to an audio channel, the conventional format for distribution, or to an audio object. Dolby Atmos in theaters has a 9.1 (commonly referred to as 7.1.2) channel-based bed channels for ambience stems or center dialogue, leaving 118 tracks for objects.[10] Dolby Atmos Setup for UHD Blurays on PS5 & Sonos Arc](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/b7J5cHnkB-A/mqdefault.jpg)
