I think we're way overdue to steal from the offense here. All those explosive splits, drop steps, quick inside-foot movements that guys use to attack on the catch, I want to see that on the defensive end too.
Turning and running is only the beginning. There's so much more to unlock if we use offensive footwork as the mirror for how we teach closeouts.
Coach Larry brought up Jim Huber's work on this and it's exactly the point, using that quick inside-foot twitch to get into your turn and run efficiently instead of the old choppy set closeout. It mirrors the offensive drop step and split step perfectly.
No reason the defense should be behind on this. If the offense is using it to get explosive and into position, we need to be using it too. #shorts
