In this video, STAAAAAAARGLIDEEEER from RAINBIRD RAINBIRD RAINBIRD, released in 1986 for the Atari ST.
The Egrons have defeated the defense system of planet Novenia by disuising their battleships as a flock of intergalactic migratory birds, the Stargliders, allowing the Egrons to pass the defense satellites and reach the surface with zero losses, conquering the planet. On an ignored Novenia's moon, technicians Jaysan and Katra take and repair the last AGAV from a museum and go for a mission to free Novenia.
You are in command of Novenia's last Airborne Ground Attack Vehicle (AGAV), with limited weaponry and fuel and with no apparent means of replenishment. Using high energy single-pulse beam and few tv guided missiles, you must overcome the sophisticated strategies of the invading Ergon's air and ground forces, led by Fleet Commander Hermann Krudd and his starship called The Starglider.
Using wireframe vector graphics to simulate a fast 3D environment, Starglider is a good combat flight simulator inspired by 1983 Atari coin-op Star Wars. The game features up to 39 colours on-screen simultaneously on intro screen, digitized intro soundtrack as well as some sound fx and supports ST high resolution. A bit hard to control at first, but very playable and enjoyable.
