Episode: "Where No One Has Gone Before"
Kosinski, a Starfleet propulsion specialist beams aboard the Enterprise accompanied by an unusual alien being who serves as his assistant, so that they may perform a series of tests on the Enterprise's warp drive. Two warp experiments are performed and both times the Enterprise is launched across unimaginable distances (read that as hundreds of millions of light years distance!) with no clear guarantees that the ship will ever make it back safely to Federation space.
Impressed by Wesley's talents for applying the technology of the Enterprise, not to mention how he appears to perceive the world around him, the Traveller requests Captain Picard nurture Wesley's development so that he may one day realise his full potential.
