For #SoundoleChillOut2021 we brought out a piece that both of us sisters had wanted to cover for years but never got around to it. Star Ocean 2 is a game that was very meaningful as an awkward teen girl, in that you could choose to play through as Rena (who was reasonably dressed and not reduced to mere love interest - this was huge for 90s JRPGs!) and it really was her story - Claude just happened to stumble along for the ride.

The main melody heard here serves as a leitmotif throughout Rena's journey, but this arrangement takes most inspiration from the theme of the Shingo Forest heard right at the start of the game. We filmed outside, taking advantage of a warm spring day (despite bugs biting, oak pollen falling and dogs barking!) and channeling the forest feel.
