The Derwent, here seen at Stamford Bridge, went down a fair bit since the Huttons Ambo excursion. Here, flying between the old Railway Viaduct, and the 18th Century humback bridge, which everybody fancies is the one the Viking got impaled from under, but was built 700 years too late for that.
Just consider, if the Vikings had won at this battle, we wouldn't have had 1000 years of the Norman Yoke, and we would be a Nordic country.
