We had just the one day on Arran, taking the ferry from Ardrossan. It was murky to begin with, but turned out lovelier later. You can get round the whole island in a few hours, but don't forget to see the circles and standing stones at Machrie Moor, the Museum of island life at Brodick, and the magnificent geology of the mountains.
