In this video, we compare a square cut diamond engagement ring against a round cut diamond ring. Both rings are placed side by side and reviewed in various types of lighting conditions.
Both of these diamonds are cut to the highest standards for their respective shapes. They are both graded as AGS 000 and are roughyl 0.60 carat in size.
So, which is better? The square or round cut diamond? Both diamonds are exceptionally well cut and are winners in their own rights.
Personally, I think the round cut diamond has better optical performance and strong contrast patterning.
This actually shows up in the video. Due to the inherent limitations of a square cut diamond, it can never achieve the same level of performance of a round cut regardless of how well cut its proportions are.
If you are someone looking for performance, go with the round cut. If you are someone looking for something unique and less commonly found, go for the square cut.
