After testing a wide variety of different one log stoves I came up with this simple design that serves as a great way to have a one log fire.
Three cuts with a saw and one split is all it takes. It can be made in just a few minutes, takes little effort and fuel to get burning, and is easy to maintain throughout the duration of it's use.
The heat can be controlled to provide a low or high heat which makes this one log fire perfect for cooking.
Many of the other variations of a one log stove that I tried (including the swedish torch and rocket stove) took too long to create and often required special tools. They were difficult to get burning, and once burning they let off an aggressive flame that is only useful for high-temperature cooking.
The split log stove is far more aimed towards being a useful cooking fire. It can replace gear in your pack like twig stoves or fuel stoves. It's simple, practical, and fun to make. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.
