Catch manufacturability issues like these before they reach the fab: Altium Develop unites design, real-time supply-chain visibility, and integrated manufacturing quotes so your stackup and clearances are production-ready from the start: altium.com/develop?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=one-minute-pcb-design-reviews&utm_content=split-grounds-add-a-net-tie
In this 1 Min PCB Design Review, Tech Consultant Zach Peterson reviews a community-submitted HDI audio interface board and walks through the design-for-manufacturing issues that would trip it up at the fab. The board defines blind vias with a 6-mil mechanical drill, which can't actually be manufactured that way, so Zach recommends building a manufacturable stackup instead. He also flags reference designator C5 sitting only about six mils from the board edge, tiny solder mask slivers created by openings spaced under one mil apart, and an interesting split-ground structure that's reconnected with copper.
The catch: those grounds are bridged without a net tie, which generates a short-circuit error in the design rules, and adding a net tie component is the clean fix. It's a fast, practical look at real PCB design review feedback on grounding, via technology, board-edge clearance, and solder mask design, with a full deep-dive on this board coming in a longer video, so subscribe to catch it. Want your own board reviewed on the channel? Send Zach your design or manufacturing files on LinkedIn.
